All Conflict Resolution and Restorative Justice training by Ken Johnson is done through the Johnson Institute, Inc. (Johnson Institute). The Johnson Institute offers a host of solutions to meet both your needs and your budget.


Such services can range from introductory training for students, certificates of completion classes for adults, and certified programs.  In particular, our certified programs use the serviced marked UNBROKEN CIRCLES brand. These outlined functions give you a guided path rather than having to develop your own system. The certified school program is based on concepts and resources found in my book (certain requirements apply).


To better assist your school, our host of services and schedule of fees are as follows :



CLASSROOM CIRCLES (INTRODUCTORY TRAINING FOR STUDENTS)

$35 per student (minimum of 10 students a class; maximum of 25 students a class) for a session lasting 45 to 60 minutes. Minimum of 2 classes per school.*


This introductory class teaches students the essential basics of Restorative Practices by learning how to create a "Community of Care" using daily classroom circles. Research has shown students can increase their retention by over 85% just by using daily classroom circles instead of standard teaching practices.




PEER MEDIATION (INTRODUCTORY TRAINING FOR STUDENTS)

$65 per student (minimum of 5 students a class; maximum of 12 students a class) for a session lasting 1 to 1.5 hours.*


This introductory class teaches students the essential basics of mediation and Conflict Resolution. These are the same lessons adults learn to become certified mediators for court systems and government agencies. With this training, student volunteers can begin a path towards a peer mediation corps at their school to handle issues of conflict using Alternative Dispute Resolution strategies.




CIRCLE TRAINING FOR ADULTS w/ CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

$250 per adult (minimum of 5 persons; maximum of 25 persons) for a training session lasting 2.5 to 3 hours. Books are included. Certificates of completion issued after training. No testing.*


This class is great for schools with a limited budget or who are wanting to investigate alternative solutions. In this class, students will learn how Restorative Justice based circles work, why they work, why a "Community of Care" is important, and more through immersion training. Books are covered by the per student fee and there isn't any testing afterwards. At the end of the class, the Johnson Institute will issue a certificate of completion for each student. Where allowed, and approved, these certificates of completion may go towards meeting routinely required professional continuing education credits.




PEER MEDIATION TRAINING FOR ADULTS w/ CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

$350 per adult (minimum of 5 persons; maximum of 15 persons) for a training session lasting 2.5 to 3 hours. Books are included. Certificates of completion issued after training. No testing.*


This class is great for schools with a limited budget or who are wanting to investigate alternative solutions. In this class, students will learn how Peer Mediation works in a school setting. Books are covered by the per student fee and there isn't any testing afterwards. At the end of the class, the Johnson Institute will issue a certificate of completion for each student. Where allowed, and approved, these certificates of completion may go towards meeting routinely required professional continuing education credits.




CONFERENCE & PANEL TRAINING FOR ADULTS w/ CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

$450 per adult (minimum of 5 persons; maximum of 15 persons) for a training session lasting 3 to 3.5 hours. Books are included. Certificates of completion issued after training. No testing.*


This class is great for schools with a limited budget or who are wanting to investigate alternative solutions. In this class, students will compare and contrast the similarities and differences between a New Zealand-styled Restorative Justice Conference and the Australian Wagga Wagga Police Department model of a Panel. Students will be given an opportunity to reflect upon the merits and drawbacks of both while also positing how each could be used in a greater "Community of Care." Books are covered by the per student fee and there isn't any testing afterwards. At the end of the class, the Johnson Institute will issue a certificate of completion for each student. Where allowed, and approved, these certificates of completion may go towards meeting routinely required professional continuing education credits.




JUSTICE CIRCLE TRAINING FOR ADULTS w/ CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

$500 per adult (minimum of 5 persons;  maximum of 25 persons) for a training session lasting 2.5 to 3 hours. Books are included. Certificates of completion issued after training. No testing.*


This class is great for schools with a limited budget or who are wanting to investigate alternative solutions. In this class, students will investigate Justice Circles as last-ditch effort in an escalating, school-based "Community of Care." Books are covered by the per student fee and there isn't any testing afterwards. At the end of the class, the Johnson Institute will issue a certificate of completion for each student. Where allowed, and approved, these certificates of completion may go towards meeting routinely required professional continuing education credits.




"CERTIFIED SCHOOL" PROGRAM

$7,500 per school fee to use Service Marked name (includes 2 free visits to school to address issues and to evaluate program). Any further needed visits are $250 per hour (plus regular, standard fees*) for consulting and conflict maintenance. Due to the nature of this certified program, there are also additional requirements and fees. The other requirements are as follows:


1. Required - Certified Circles Facilitator training. This costs $700 per person (books, testing, and certified facilitator certificate included). $50 per person per test retesting fee applies for anyone failing the initial exam after training. Maximum of 3 retests offered the same day. Two day training class. 20 adults per class maximum; 5 adults per class minimum.


2. Required - Certified Peer Mediator Trainer training. This costs $700 per person (books, testing, and certified facilitator certificate included). $50 per person per test retesting fee applies for anyone failing the initial exam after training.  Maximum of 1 retest allowed. Three day training class. 12 adults per class maximum;  3 adults per class minimum.


3. Required - Certified Conference Facilitator/Panelist training. This costs $850 per person (books, testing, and certified facilitator certificate included). $50 per person per test retesting fee applies for anyone failing the initial exam after training.  Maximum of 1 retest allowed. Two day training class. Certified Circles Facilitator credentials required before attending the class. 10 adults per class maximum; 4 adults per class minimum.


4. Required - Certified Justice Circle Facilitator training. This training costs $1,200 per person (books, testing, and certified facilitator certificate included). $50 per person per test retesting fee applies for anyone failing the initial exam after training.  Maximum of 1 retest allowed. Two day training class. Certified Circles Facilitator credentials required before attending the class. 10 adults per class maximum; 2 adults per class minimum.


5. Required - Certified Unbroken Circles for Schools Administrator training. This training costs $1,500 per person (books, testing, and certified facilitator certificate included). $50 per person per test retesting fee applies for anyone failing the initial exam after training.  Maximum of 1 retest allowed. Two day training class. Certified Circles Facilitator, Certified Conference Facilitator/Panelist, and Certified Justice Circle Facilitator credentials required before attending the class. 10 adults per class maximum; 2 adults per class minimum.

 

Unlike the various certificate of completion programs, which have no testing requirements, this series of classes and testing is a requirement for any school to use the Unbroken Circles SM for Schools name. This is the same program outlined in the award-winning book of the same name. Books are covered by the per student fee and there is required testing afterwards.






 *    Standard additional fees apply. These fees include a $1.50 per mile mileage cost (round trip) for schools 50 miles outside of our coverage area. Districts may opt to pay for round trip airfare and in-town car rental should the total cost of mileage be more than the cost of said airfare and car rental. Should the trainer be required to stay longer than four hours, the district will be required to pay either a $35 per meal fee or provide the trainer a meal free of charge. Should training require the trainer to stay overnight, the district shall either provide a hotel room free of charge or pay a $250 per night lodging fee.
